Canadians are stressed  . . .

We have found ourselves in a new era; one where we are restricted in our actions to ensure our own health and safety.  Prior to the pandemic, a hug or a handshake were considered usual greetings among family, friends and coworkers. This all changed when the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 as a Global Pandemic on March 11, 2020.

In a recent report released by Morneau Shepell regarding the mental health of Canadians, living in a pandemic state for the past 6 months has brought awareness to the intricacies of mental stress in the workplace.

With cases on the rise in many parts of the country, the most prevalent concern is the impact on household finances. This is followed by the fear of becoming ill with COVID-19, as well as the fear of a loved one’s death due to COVID-19.

While we applaud and appreciate the front-line health care workers and all who risk their lives in order to keep us safe; Canadians are feeling the constant strain of having to adjust to various living and working conditions. Whether working from home or in-office, the pandemic has fiercely adjusted our lives. Canadians continue to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing masks in public places, maintaining social distancing regulations, thorough washing of hands and regular use of hand sanitizer.

As Canadians, we will continue to learn to adjust as we go, all while keeping in regular “COVID-friendly” contact with loved ones and maintaining the positive attitudes we are known for!
